The Last of the Leaves

~This last piece of autumn is for you.  We're really heading into the winter season here.  Last night the wind made our window rattle in it's frame.  All. Night.  Needless to say, we'll be happy when the leaves don't need any shaking off the trees and we can happily melt away in all the rain that is to come.
Shoes: Blowfish. Dress: Mystic. Shirt: Wet Seal. Cardigan: Ricki's. Belt: Thrifted.  Purse: H&M.
~We also started decorating our Christmas Tree last night (a sure sign of winter), but since it was us, we had troubles with the lights and eventually gave up and did some more studying.
Dress and Belt: xhiliration. Cardigan: Kersh. Boots: BeWild.

Sunday

We did it

~We (specifically Gabrielle) broke out the Christmas Tunes.  And we're decorating a little tree tonight and eating Reese's Pieces cookies which have nothing to do with Christmas, but they are delicious.  You can be sure I'll singing along to the Barra MacNeils (they're from Cape Breton).  What's your favourite Christmas album?

~ps. Samuel Taylor Coleridge says hi.

Friday

10 things I learned this week

Cardigan: Kersh. Lace Top: mlovesm. Jeans: Brody. Flats: American Eagle.

1. knitting is even more distracting than the internet.
2. The bibles for mission store is the best place to find christmas bulbs.
3. Adrienne Rich is one of the most brilliant writers I have ever read.  I would put her right up there with Virginia Woolf.
4. My essay edits look like I murdered the paper.
5. It is possible to miss your roomates even if you're only gone for two nights.
6. The occupy movement is reminiscent of Robin Hood.
7. It's best not to tell people that this is my first time watching Friends.
8. It will probably not get below negative ten degrees celcius here.  I might as well be living in Maui compared to what I'm used to.
9. I still don't like ribs, but I'll eat the sauce.
10. As it gets colder, the sunrise becomes more beautiful.

Wednesday

This Car is the Best Car

~Just look how snazzy it is.  You wouldn't need loud beats droppin' to make people look at you in this ride.  I  also think it would look really cute on a sweater.  Right? Right.
~We found it while strolling around in the sunshine, killing time because somehow we're either early from everything, or late.  We can't seem to get the happy medium of being on time.
~Some days it is very important to match your room mates.

Skirt: Thrifted and DIY shortened. Sweater: Gap. Jacket: F21.  Windmill Earrings: Gift from someone I miss on the east coast. Purse: H&M

Shirt: Jules & James. Belt: Thrifted. Jacket: Mine, thrifted.

~Fun fact about Hillary: She dyes her hair with henna.  Look how fantastic it looks.  She uses Caca Rouge Mama found here in the Lush online shop.

Sunday

I'm never wearing this again

Dress: F21. Cardigan: Aeropostale. Belt: Thrifted. Bracelet: Gift.
~You're all thinking it.  It's short.  Eep.  It is so short.  And although I was modest and took all necessary precautions, I still found myself clamping my hands to my legs just in case it decided to take off.  But it is the cutest little dress.  And too long to be a shirt.  It's like a pre-teen- cute and fun, but awkward and uncertain.

~In other news, I start my new job today, I have one draft of one of my five essays done, there are fifteen days of classes left and thirty-four until I return to the prairies and Hillary comes home today.  Oh and it is raining, but that's old news.  Please tell me your lives are less stressful so I can live vicariously through your relaxation.  Or tell me they're hectic so we can sympathize together.  Either is fine by me.

Wednesday

Hair in my eyes like a highland steer

{Yes, that is from a country song.  It's Corb Lund to be exact}
~Last night we celebrated the beginning of reading break by going to The Pink Bicycle for burgers.  They were the most delicious burgers I have ever tasted.  And they're made from all local island ingredients.  It's nice to get out once in awhile.  Especially in the middle of the week.

Shoes: American Eagle.  Jeans: Brody. Floral Tank: BLVD. Sweater: Kersh.  Purse: Gift.
~And now onto those 4 essays, that new job and still feeding ourselves and keeping the house clean.

Tuesday

Eat this - Roasted Vegetables

~This is one good looking meal.  It's something that will look amazing no matter what (well, unless you burn it).

12 small mushrooms (we skipped these because I “forgot”)
2 ripe tomatoes (halved)
1 red and 1 yellow bell pepper (seeded and cut into strips) (only used red pepper)
1 red onion (wedges)
1 small fennel bulb (wedges) (we skipped this)
1 whole garlic bulb (broken into individual cloves but left unpeeled)
2 tsp salt
2 tbsp olive oil
1 can of chickpeas (drain and rinse)
1 thyme or rosemary sprigs (we skipped this as well)

~We also added zucchini for the first hour of roasting and kale for the last thirty minutes~

Preheat oven to 350°F.
Put the first six ingredients (all the veggies) in a large roasting pan.  Sprinkle salt over the vegetables and drizzle with oil.  Toss well to coat.  Roast for 1 hour.
Remove the pan from the oven and turn the vegetables.  Add the chickpeas and thyme sprigs.  Return the pan to the oven and roast for 30 more minutes, until the edges of the vegetables begin to blacken and char.  Serve with couscous if you like. (We served over quinoa)
The garlic is for flavouring but if you pop the cloves out of their peel and eat along with the rest of the roasted vegetables you will be in garlic heaven.

~Isn't it the most attractive?
